What is Pedantech?

Pedantech is my super-hero alter ego who already knows how to do things the first time I am presented with any challenge. Pedantech's super power is Hindsight. It is also the brand I use for consulting and advising. I enjoy offering advice to willing early stage startups and non-profits on how to leverage technology. Aside from that, this is also the place where I leave "man I wish someone had told me this" knowledge that might be useful to just about anyone, but especially my kids. I can't force them to take my advice, but if I make it available someplace where they can read it without my ever knowing, what's the harm?

How do I tie all this together? That remains to be seen, but I do see a common thread. Like my kids, I can't force the entrepreneurs I work with to actually act on what I tell them. Startups, much like children, demand an immense amount of effort and there are no guarantees -- much less a universally accepted definition -- of success.

So, here I will write things I have learned. Some of it will be things I got right. A good deal more will be lessons learned from mistakes over the years.

As a brand, Pedantech is the work I do with organizations that are beyond the advice stage and want hands-on guidance to a the promised land of Done. TODO: link this to my take on the Cult of Done Manifesto. TODO: link this to my take on TODOs.

Why the name? It's a reminder not to take myself too seriously and to have fun with this project. I'm a technologist. I'm pedantic. I know it and I own it. Everyone who knows me knows it. My mom bought me a diary. The front cover has the title, "I'm not arguing. I'm simply explaining why I'm right." Thanks, Mom. Both for the thoughtful gift and the learned behavior. TODO: Add a picture and make sure I got the title right.
